9/11- I Remember

I remember that horrible day 17 years ago
The world tilted on it’s axis as the planes crashed and buildings crumpled like Lego towers. So many people senselessly vanished from this earth all because of hate. I remember watching endless hours of ground zero coverage while holding my breath and praying they’d find more survivors. I remember the eerie sounds of sirens from help vehicles but also from the alarms of brave first responders who went in to help but didn’t make it out alive. I remember the surreal feeling of quietness as our nation mourned. American flags were everywhere. People waved them proudly by the roadsides, displayed them on homes, buildings and cars. Our great nation came together and you could feel the patriotism all around. People were a little kinder. People came together and treasured loved ones. This horrible act actually brought us together.... at least for a time. I would never want to go back to that day, that incredibly tragic time.  However, I wish that people didn’t forget to be kinder, love harder, and be thankful for our great country. It shouldn’t take horrific tragedy to bring out the best in people.  I know that I will truly never forget.  God bless America!
